Slovaks on the Olympics in Vancouver
Saturday, 20 February 2010 16:14

First ever Olympic golden medal for independent Slovak republic from Winter Olympic games was won by Anastasiya Kuzmina, Slovak Russian born biathlete.

Anastasija Kuzmina holding her gold medal - first ever for Slovak republic from Winter Olympic games.

She won the golden medal in 7.5km sprint and later that week won a silver medal in 10km pursuit race. Slovaks are very proud of her achievements and immediatelly created couple of Facebook fan pages. I have found five, if you want to become her you better check them out. I have also read a comment from her former trainer Leonid Guriev who said he was disappointed by Russians by "letting her go". Anyway Slovaks are very happy and that means I am happy and maybe that is why I have posted this article on my page after more that year and a half. Slovak Ice Hockey team makes me hopefull that this post would not be the last one related to Olympic games.

Slovakia is using euro since yesterday
Friday, 02 January 2009 12:13

Slovakia has become the 16th member of the European Union to use the euro currency. As the world ushered in the New Year, 100,000 people gathered in Slovakia's capital to celebrate the country's move to the euro currency. The country is the 16th to use the euro after 11 European Union members launched it 10 years ago, and the second former communist country to join eurozone. The Slovak koruna will remain in circulation alongside the euro until January 16.

Slovakia's adoption of the euro comes as the currency has soared in value against both the US dollar and the pound. Slovakia hopes the move to the euro will provide stability in the global economic storm.
